Bokkos Chairman donated relief materials worth 2 million to displaced persons in Bokkos

Relief materials worth more than two (2) million naira have been presented to victims of recent attacks on Mbar community and environs in Bokkos local government area. The gesture, according to the council’s chairman Monday Kassa, is to alleviate the plight of the internally displaced persons at various camps in the locality.
Presenting the relief materials to victims of the attacks at Pilot Primary School Bokkos campsite where some of the displaced persons are taking refuge, the council chairman Monday Kassa assured them of their safety, Kassa said the little the council can afford for now will caution the condition they are facing as the council cannot compensate all the loses and urged them to be their brother’s keeper.
The chairman called on the state and federal government emergency management agencies and other spirited individuals to come to the assistance of the displaced victims to enable them go back to their various homes.
Responding on behalf of the displaced persons, Mrs. Hannatu Bitrus thanked the council chairman for assisting them, she used the opportunity to appeal to government and other philanthropists to come to their help.
Items distributed includes 100bags of rice, 30bags of garri, 20bags of sugar, 40cartons of indomie, 10bags of salt, 10cartons of maggi cubes, 20jerricans of palm oil, 20bags of millet, 10bags of corn and 35cartons of assorted detergent.

Councilors in Plateau State demands remuneration, six month after election

The Forum of Local Government Legislative Leaders in Plateau State is seeking explanation for the delay in payment of their entitlement, six months after they assumed office. Chairman of the forum Gajere Clement who is also the Legislative Leader of Jos South LGA made the forum’s decision known when he led other members on a visit to the commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy affairs,  John Dadut.

Gajere said as elected leaders of their various local government and grassroots politicians, there is more expectation from them from their constituents which for now they cannot meet due to the prevailing situation. He further said they are passing through a lot of difficulties as a result of nonpayment of their entitlements, stressing that they cannot give quality representation without being paid for such a long period of time, he then applauded what he termed the humility of the Commissioner who received them even without an appointment.

Responding to issues raised in the forum, the Commissioner John Dadut said the matter has been discussed thoroughly with all Local Government Chairmen, as the available the existing Local Government laws which contains details of their salaries is accessible to all their Council Chairmen.

Dadut attributed the delay in the payment of their salaries to the delay in the submission of the comprehensive list of elected and appointed Local Government political office holders and that the Bio-Metric Data capturing is another factor that cause the delay in the payment of their entitlement and assured that by the end of September the process will be over.

Analog Transmission will cease end of Oct. in Plateau State – Dr Mba

The Director-General of Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC), Dr. Emeka Mba has said many households in Plateau State will not have access to television programmes by the end of October 2014, if they do not key into the ongoing digitization process.
Dr. Mba stated this during the public enlightenment campaign on the switch-over from analogue to digital broadcasting for the Northern senatorial zone of the state, held at the Hill Station Hotel Conference Hall n Jos, Wednesday.
He said that digitization is the new trend in broadcasting as “analogue has no room for expansion but more people who want to come into broadcast can do so” adding that once they produce their contents and send it to the signal distribution.
The D.G through Mr. Auwalu Salihu disclosed that signals distributor has been sent to government for approval and eight different companies are to bring in set up boxes as NBC is working out modalities on complete digitization in the state.
He maintained that “ Go TV and Startimes have been working hard to ensure that digitization succeeds and more than 90 percent of Plateau State can now receive digital signals, adding that they can begin to switch out when 100 percent is completed and that they are going to be replicating what happened in Plateau State.
In her remarks, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Barr. Mrs. Olivia Dazyam, who is also the chairman on public enlightenment campaign on the switch-over from analogue to digital broadcasting said that the digitization of television broadcasting will boost tourism and culture in the state.
She further explained that digitization is all about content, saying “we have different cultural backgrounds and digitization will showcase the cultures, bringing the various cultures, into the digital system.
Mrs. Dazyam said “ we are meeting with local government officials for partnership because we do not expect that any part of the country should be left out by 15th June, 2015 In the next two days, the campaign will be taken to the central and southern Plateau because we want to understand what this is all about”.

New Managing Director for PIPC

Plateau government has restated its commitment in turning the fortunes of the state economy to an enviable height in order to meet up with global standards through the restructuring of its investment firm.
The state Commissioner for Commerce & Industry, Helen Miner reaffirmed this while ushering in the new Managing Director of Plateau Investment and Property Development Company (P.I.P.C), Mr Silas Liman to his office at the Murtala Muhammad House in Jos.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Mustapha Umar Galadima, the Commissioner handed over to the new Managing Director a Compendium of projects, tagged;”THE FUTURE” Containing details of the re-structuring of the Company for him to study carefully for onward action, urging Mr Liman to see his appointment as part of the present administration effort to restructure the organization for the up liftment of the state’s economy and also in meeting the yearning and aspirations of plateau people.
Miner disclosed that the state government had a year ago awarded a contract to prime consult for the restructuring of Plateau Investment and Property Development Company aimed at promoting better productivity and enhancing the economy fortunes of the state.
In this acceptance speech, the new Managing Director, Mr Silas Liman appreciated the state government for giving the opportunity to serve the state and pledged his readiness to justify confidence repose in him.
Liman called for the support and Co-Operation from his predecessors and the staff of the Company in every way possible to enable him succeeds.
Earlier in a farewell address, the out-going Managing Director, Gyang Choji congratulate Mr Liman on his new appointment and thanked Governor Jonah David Jang for allowing him served his father land and urged the new Managing Director to see the company as a learning institution ,calling on him to bring his wealth of experience to bare in the organization.
Choji promise to be available when the need arises.

Hon Beni Lar commissioned 5 state-of-the-art vehicles in Langtang South

Member representing Langtang North and South constituency in the National Assembly Beni Lar has commended the Chairman of Langtang South LGA, Nanchuat Bendel Domfa fro the developmental stride witnessed in the locality within his 6 months tenure. Beni Lar gave this commendation at the commissioning of 5 vehicles purchased by the council at the LGA Secretariat Mabudi.

Presenting the 5 vehicles which included a Highlander Jeep and 4 Toyota Camry to Hon Beni Lar for commissioning the Chairman of the council, Nanchuat Bendel said the move is to boost productivity, according to him the purchase of the state of the art vehicles in line with present day standard, is also to provide comfort to principal officers as they discharge their responsibilities.

Commissioning the vehicles member representing Langtang North and South in the national Assembly Beni Lar said the move by the council the move by the council in procuring the vehicles is commendable, she observed that the vehicles will not only boost the morale of the officers concern but will uplift the LGA as witnessed in the past 6 months of the Nanchuat Bendel led administration.

The five vehicles purchase are for the Chairman, his deputy, secretary of the council, leader of the legislature and director of Personel Management in the council.

N8 billion water supply projects to be handed over to PLSG by the end of October this year

Plateau State Water Board has expressed optimism that the N8 billion water supply projects will be handed over to government by the end of October this year. General Manager of the Board Eugene Pam stated this while inspecting some water projects within Jos and environ.

The scope of the project covers construction of new reservoirs, replacements of old pipelines and relocation and extension of pipeline, as well as expansion of Rabin Du pond to augment the Yakubu Gowon Dam. At the Nabor Gwom former Eto Baba, the General Manager who was conducted round the facility by the contractor inspected the 5,000 cubic meter treatment plant which has reach about 90% completion. Ward Head of Nabor Gwom thank Governor Jonah Jang for providing a treatment plant for the community to meet its water needs. The General Manager commended the community for cooperating with government and advise them to guard the facility jealously. The Manager also inspected a treatment plant at NDA base camp, Anguldi Zawan. The Project Manager CTC Nig Ltd Zhau Yang said the Company will hand over facility soon and assured of the durability of the facility. A consultant with the World Bank Mr W. William said he is happy with what the Plateau State Government has done, General Manager of the Water Board Eugene Pam expressed satisfaction in the level and quality of the work on ground.

 

John Gotau call on the People of the Middle Belt to unite

People of the middle belt origin in the country have been advised to unite and struggle for the liberation of the region. Chairman of Kanke LGA John Gotau gave the advice when leadership of the National Association Middle Belt Students paid him a courtesy call at the council’s secretariat.

According to the Chairman, the middle belt region has contributed immensely to the nation but lamented that the region has been relegated to the background especially in political and state affairs. Gotau said students from the region who are leaders of tomorrow most work hard for the liberation of the region as the hope of the middle belt lies in their hands.

The chairman expressed appreciation to the student’s body for the recognition done to the late Joseph Gomwalk by organizing memorial lecture in his honor and promised to assist the students to realize their set goals.

President of the Association Middle Belt Students Adeniyi Suleiman said the recognition of the Chairman is because of his selfless effort in transforming the Local Government Area and his assistance to the less privilege in his locality. Suleiman said the association will soon organize another memorial lecture in honor of Nde Joseph Gomwalk to be held in Pankshin or Kanke and solicited the assistance of the Chairman towards the realization of that objective.

2250 households in Plateau benefited from MDGs Conditional Cash Transfer

The federal government has extended the Millennium Development Goal MDG program beyond its 2015 terminal date, this is in order to ensure the gains already made by the part of the intervention across the county are sustained.

Coordinator of the MDG Peter Nyam Gai made this known at the entrepreneurship training programs for the beneficiaries of the Conditional Cash Transfer CCT scheme in some selected local government areas in Plateau state.

The Conditional Cash Transfer CCT is targeted at the poorest of the poor when some selected households in communities are giving N5,000 monthly to alleviate poverty. Like the MDG, the CCT program has a terminal date and the plan is to give each benefiting household the sum of N100,000. The ensure judicious utilization of the money, the MDG beneficiaries constitutes themselves into cooperatives.

State MDG Coordinator Peter Nyam Gai, a legal practitioner said 2250 households in Plateau has so far benefited from the scheme noting that that the plan is to empower them to become agents of wealth creation. The coordinator stated that the resource organization, Plateau State Fadama III has a wealth of experience in the area of grassroots capability building.

State coordinator of Fadama III Gideon Dandam who gave an overview of the training program told the CCT beneficiaries to take advantage of the opportunity to become agent of change in their community. Also speaking Deputy Chairman of Jos East and his Riyom counterpart who both represented their Chairmen acknowledge the impact of the MDG on the improvement of the social well being of citizens especially rural dwellers. Their position was affirmed by the traditional rulers in Jos East and Riyom LGAs. The training program conducted by resource persons from Plateau State Fadama III centered on entrepreneurship.

Mrs Rahila Bakfur spoke on forming corporative, Davou Paul dealt with the issue of crop and livestock production while engineer Esther Agbo lectured on value addition for profitability in business and Dachomo James took them on entrepreneurship and marketing.

The program is under the poverty eradication accelerator investment training for beneficiaries on the Conditional Cash Transfer under the 2012 MDG CGS Local Government track.
