The Plateau State Police command has developed a mechanism that will ensure officers respond to emergency situations in Jos within 5 minutes of receiving a distress call. The new state Commissioner of Police Nasiru Oke disclosed this while briefing the traditional council of the state during a familiarization meeting chaired by the Gbom Gwom Jos Jacob Gyang Buba at the government house in Rayfield.
The Police Commissioner Mr. Nasiri Oke who released the emergency mobile telephone numbers calls the traditional rulers and stressed that the strategy is aimed at consolidating the past achievements recorded in the peace process.
Oke who was in company of the Director of State Security Service Kunle Ajayi said they have deliberately focused on the need to ensure that there are no more no go areas for law enforcement agents in Jos and called on the traditional rulers to support the program.
He added that the Police have also been successful in decongesting the terminus area of Jos by flushing out illegal traders and the exercise will continue in other security flash points in the city after the Sallah celebrations.
Chairman of the Plateau State Traditional Council and the Gbom Gwom Jos Da Jacob Gyang Buba promised to partner with the agencies towards promoting a peaceful co-existence among the diverse ethnic groups in the state.
The Long-Goemai of Shendam Hubert Sheldas II, Emir of Wase Alhaji Mohammed Sambo Haruna made observations which centered on the need to counter the activities of cattle rustlers, illegal mining in Wase and communal clashes in Shendam and Bassa Local Government Areas.
