Hospitals in Jos city and environs are reporting an unprecedented increase in the number of patients admitted with cases of cholera and diarrhea in the last two weeks.
A Dr told our reporter that the cases are not unconnected with the severe case of water shortage the city is experiencing which has resulted to people buying water from questionable sources. He also talked about the workers strike which led to refuse abandoned for weeks in different part of the city contributing a lot to the unfortunate incident as people lived and work within the area where refuse were left unattended for weeks.
Speaking to some residents of the city, they believe that the Mango season is partly to blame as people now take the fruit without washing it properly.
Though the cholera case is yet to be confirmed officially, health workers are calling on the general public to be extra careful, to wash fruits properly before consumption and to visit the hospital immediately for cases of vomiting and diarrhea.
