Tension in PLHA as PDP members reject Lalong’s attempt to constitute caretaker committees for LGAs

There is tension in the Plateau State House of Assembly as 13 out of the 24 Members of the House resisted the attempt by the Governor to constitute a caretaker Committee in the Councils. The 13 PDP Members who resisted the move obstructed the Speaker of the House Mr. Peter Azi of the All Progressives Congress APC from presenting a letter from the Governor on the floor of the House thereby forcing the Speaker to adjourn the hearing.

Speaking on the issue Deputy Speaker of the House, Mr. Yusuf Gagdi, Majority Leader Mr. Daniel Dem and 11 other members of the PDP described the attempt by the Speaker to smuggle the issue of the constitution of the Caretaker committees for deliberation as illegal saying they will not allow illegality the House and since the issue of dissolution of the Chairmen is still in the court of law, the House must respect that and wait for the court’s verdict.
It would be recalled that Governor Simon Lalong had on the 6th of July dissolved the elected Local Government Chairmen whose tenure is to expire in 2017 and they have since taken the matter to court challenging the dissolution.
