JMDB commenced on the demolition of illegal structures in Jos metropolis

The Plateau State Jos Metropolitan Development Board (JMDB) has embarked on demolition of illegal structures  within the terminus business area in the state capital as part of measures in curbing the security threats prevalent in the state capital.
Speaking in his office on the exercise, the Acting General Manager of the Board Mr. Mathias N. Hata  in Jos the state capital stressed that the mandate of the board is to ensure that proper urban governance within the Jos master plan is highly maintained but most important of all, is the security safety of all citizens in the state especially the busy terminus area.
“ the influx  of petty traders from neighboring states is alarming, it has become a serious security threat to the city,” he said.
“The security agencies have been dispersing people in some areas targeted by insurgents which include the busy terminus/Jos central business area, it is our duty to avert lost of lives and property of citizens.
Mr. Hata maintained that the demolition and clearing of the abandoned areas would curtail the influx of petty traders on the street.
According to the acting GM the board had had series of meetings with the Plateau state traders/marketers association within Jos-North local government area including the 19 sub units of the petty traders union whom have been causing problems of not  adhering to Government directives.
Head of the demolition exercise team, Mr. Alphonsus Soemlat said the exercise normally commence by 5am till day break amidst tight security.
