Constant surveillance and notification has been identified as key to early detection and response to the outbreak of diseases especially Lassa fever, Plateau State Commissioner for Health Dr. Kunden Kamshark made this known while declaring open a 2 days workshop at the Plateau State Specialist hospital, organized by the ministry to treat disease surveillance and notification officers commission across the 17 Local Government areas of the state.
The 2 day sensitization workshop was organized to equipped Surveillance technicians to be prompt and timely. Dr Kamshark challenged the disease surveillance officers to be proactive in the discharge of their duties, the Commissioner use the opportunity to applaud Governor Simon Lalong for releasing funds to the ministry to train and equip their personnel.
Speaking on objective of the workshop, Mr G. Ibrahim of the ministry indentified case management, sharing of information and infection control of Lassa fever among other fevers as important in managing the spread of disease.
Permanent secretary in the ministry, Abel Gotau reminded the health personnel of their roles in ensuring that the Plateau man is kept healthy at all time. Technicians across the state will take their turn in the sensitization exercise next week in case of any suspected of Lassa fever which has symptoms starting from general body weakness, headaches, sour throat and diarrhea among other abnormalities.
