Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State has expressed concern over the non-enrollment of citizens into the Federal Government Anchor Borrower Scheme by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) designed to fund both small and medium enterprises and agricultural businesses in the state.
He stated this Monday, at the opening ceremony of the Southern Senatorial zone at this year’s Jos Trade Fair held at the Polo Field, Jos, the state capital.
Represented by the State Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. Hitler Dadi, the Governor said Plateau State is endowed with a lot of both natural and human resources, but it’s citizens could not take advantage of such opportunities even as he decried that people refused to key into this Federal Government programme that would help put food on everybody’s table”.
He said, “whatever we have in Nigeria today, that we are proud of, started here and on the Plateau to God be the glory, he stated. That miracle apart from the change mantra of Federal Government which has brought about diversification of the economy by engaging in agriculture which Plateau is leading”.
“Apart from that, if you are talking about mining, oil, agriculture etc, we have so many advantages. When we are talking Anchor Borrower Scheme, all they need is for you to go and fill a form and pay just two thousand naira only, it is said that, people refused to register for this programme but prefer to take money for pleasure. This government is not for that again, people should key into it now” Lalong enthused.
THE NIGERIA STANDARD reports that similar programme in the past did not yield result, and it is possible that the negative attitude of citizens to the scheme could not be far from the fear that , they could be duped again, hence the need for them to be given hope.
Earlier, the President of PLACCIMA, Da Bulus Dareng, commended government and the people of southern zone for their support towards the success of the trade fair and prayed that, subsequent ones should be more than the one of this year’s and called for collaboration towards rekindling the economy of the state through PLACCIMA.
On his part, the Management Committee Chairman of Shendam LGC, Hon. Alexander Miskoom Naantuam, who spoke on behalf of chairmen of the zone, thanked Governor Lalong for his genuine intention for industrialization and entrepreneurship in the state.
He also commended the remarkable turn-out of certified local and foreign exhibitors at the Trade Fair, saying it was a demonstration of confidence of prospective investors in the vast economic and industrial potentials as well as the safety of investment climate in the state.
Also speaking the council secretary of Langtang South LGA, Ho. Nanyok N. Joshua, who represented his chairman said, they were looking forward to educating their farmers on rice production where there would be rice milling machines that would package their products for onward sell to Nigerians and other countries, hence the need for people to support the change mantra of the federal government.
