Plateau State Government applauds WaterAid

The Plateau State government has applauded the contribution of Water Aid Nigeria in the upliftment of the health status of its people.
Governor Simon Lalong gave the commendation when the country Director, Water Aid Nigeria, Dr. Michael Ojo paid him a courtesy call at Government House, Rayfield, Jos, Thursday.
Lalong who was represented by his Deputy, Professor Sonni Tyoden acknowledged the contribution of the Water Aid Nigeria particularly in four local governments in the state, noting that they have impacted positively on the lives of the people.
Lalong pointed out that the agency has complimented government’s efforts in the area of sanitation and provision of safe drinking water as well as public toilets there by curtailing open defecation among the people.
He explained that government would ensure that whatever condition that was required for the second project in the state were met.
While calling on the organization to furnish government with the details of the project to be executed, the governor appealed for the expansion in the scope beyond four local governments as was the case in the past.
Earlier, Country Director Water Aid Nigeria, Dr. Michael Ojo had disclosed that the agency has been working in the state for the past fourteen years and that they have completed a project earmarked for 5 years in the state.
Dr. Ojo explained that they were exploring opportunities for the second project which was for three states including Plateau State and assured that with the support of the government, Plateau State would be the beneficiary, adding that the decision to invest the money in the state would also depend on the outcome of consultations and engagement with relevant stakeholder in the next two months.
