Lalong signs electoral commission, revenue bills

Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong yesterday signed into law the long awaited Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) bill which seeks to regulate the conduct of local government elections and other related matters.

Lalong said after signing the bill at the Little Rayfield Government House that with the law now in place, it was up to the commission to execute her primary mandate in line with the provisions by conducting local government election.

The governor also signed the Plateau State Revenue Consolidated law which would provide for the reinforcement of the state’s revenue collection system through a functional administrative structure as well as harmonize the various rates, levies and taxes collected by Ministries, Departments and Agencies, as well as by the LG councils.

“The PLASIEC law will not only regulate the conduct of elections and the structure and functions of local councils, it will also provide for the creation and administration of development areas, in keeping with the yearnings of our people. We are prepared as a government to conduct election into the third tier of government which will be largely participatory, free, fair and credible,” Lalong said.
