
The National Universities Commission (NUC) has officially recognised the Abdulsalami Abubakar University of Agriculture and Climate Action in Mokwa, Niger State.
The recognition, confirmed in a letter dated 2nd December 2024, marks the institution as the 65th state university and the 277th university in the Nigerian University System.
Acting Executive Secretary of NUC, Chris Mayaki, announced the decision in a formal letter to His Excellency, Governor Mohammed Umar Bago of Niger State. “With effect from Monday 2nd December 2024, Abdulsalami Abubakar University of Agriculture and Climate Action is hereby recognised,” Mayaki wrote, confirming the university’s official status.
The recognition comes after the Niger State Government’s submission of essential documents, including the university law, academic brief, and physical master plan, on 2nd October 2024.
The NUC pledged its support to the new institution, urging the Niger State Government to seek guidance on sustainable funding and operations.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) have been notified of the university’s establishment, paving the way for its integration into Nigeria’s educational framework.
