Zamfara, UBEC Deepen Ties to Transform Basic Education Access

Zamfara State Governor, Dr Dauda Lawal, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to overhauling basic education during a courtesy visit to the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) headquarters in Abuja.

The visit, aimed at strengthening collaboration, marks a renewed synergy between Zamfara State and UBEC in addressing critical gaps in foundational learning.

Governor Lawal praised UBEC’s leadership under Dr Aisha Garba, congratulating her on her appointment. He said, “We inherited enormous challenges, but we are determined to rewrite the narrative of education in Zamfara. UBEC’s support is central to achieving this goal.”

The governor listed recent interventions, including the return of striking teachers, the rehabilitation of dilapidated schools, the reintegration of out-of-school children, and the distribution of learning materials to over 250 public schools.

In response, Dr Garba commended the governor’s swift reforms, describing his achievements as “a testament to purposeful leadership.” She added, “UBEC is ready to partner more deeply with Zamfara State to deliver quality, inclusive education for every child.”

Deputy Executive Secretary (Services), also present at the meeting, described Zamfara’s commitment as a model of political will. “What we are witnessing is not just policy but action that reflects vision,” he said.

Education analysts say Zamfara’s approach signals a hopeful shift in northern Nigeria, where learning outcomes have historically lagged behind national averages.

The meeting ended with a shared resolve to deepen cooperation and innovation in basic education delivery.

Governor Lawal assured stakeholders: “No child in Zamfara will be left behind in our new education agenda.”
