Ministry of Health and Women Affairs Visits Special School in Bassa to Enhance Student Welfare

In a concerted effort to improve the living conditions and overall health of students, the Honourable Commissioner of Health, Dr. Shurkuk, Cletus Bako, and the Commissioner of Women Affairs, Hon. Caroline Panglang Dafur, led a delegation of government officials on a visit to the Special School for the Deaf in Bassa LGA.

Accompanied by Pharm. Kim Jerry Bot, the Executive Secretary of the Plateau State Drugs and Medical Commodities Management Agency (PS-DMCMA), as well as the Permanent Secretary and Directors from the Ministry of Health, the visit underscored the commitment of the Time is Now Administration to address the needs of vulnerable populations.

During the visit, the Commissioners pledged to gather data on students with partial hearing ability to facilitate comprehensive intervention strategies. Urgent government intervention was identified as crucial, particularly in providing basic drugs for the school clinic and addressing the shortage of teachers in key subjects.

It was noted that the government currently provides free education and meals for the students, a testament to its commitment to inclusive education. The Principal expressed satisfaction with the level of support received from the Mutfwang-led administration, highlighting its positive impact on the school.

Moreover, the visit aimed to address the needs of students with disabilities, ensuring they have access to quality education and healthcare. This initiative reflects the government’s dedication to promoting the welfare of all citizens, particularly those in marginalized communities.

As the delegation concluded their visit, they reiterated their commitment to working closely with stakeholders to implement targeted interventions that will enhance the well-being of students at the Special School for the Deaf and other similar institutions across the state.
