Former Nigerian Leaders Commend NECO Registrar for Reforms


Former Nigerian leaders Gen. Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida and Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar have praised the Registrar of the National Examinations Council (NECO), Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, for the transformative reforms he has implemented since taking office.

The commendation came during separate courtesy visits by Prof. Wushishi and the NECO management to the elder statesmen at their residences in Minna.

Prof. Wushishi highlighted the challenges he faced upon assuming his role, including a lack of basic facilities and low staff morale. However, through prudent resource management and strategic reforms, he has been able to overcome these obstacles and elevate NECO’s status within the educational landscape.

Gen. Babangida expressed his satisfaction with the Registrar’s achievements, emphasising the vital role NECO plays in Nigeria’s educational development.  Stating, “I am quite impressed with what you have been able to achieve since your assumption of Office, NECO is an important institution which has a great role to play in the educational development of Nigeria, I therefore urge you and your Management not to relent in your efforts in sustaining this very important Government institution.”

Similarly, Gen. Abdulsalami commended Prof. Wushishi for his resilience in addressing the initial challenges at NECO and positioning the council as a reputable examination body globally.

He acknowledged the Registrar’s dedication to enhancing NECO’s standing and ensuring its sustainability.

The Emir of Minna, Alhaji Umar Farouq Bahago, also lauded Prof. Wushishi for his effective management of staff issues and praised his performance since assuming office.

The royal father affirmed the solid support of the people of Niger State for the Registrar, recognizing his commitment to upholding the integrity of NECO.

In response to the accolades, Prof. Wushishi expressed gratitude for the recognition and reiterated his commitment to further advancing NECO’s mission of promoting quality education in Nigeria.

The Registrar’s leadership and vision have not only revitalised the council but also garnered widespread acclaim from key stakeholders in the educational sector.
